Technology

Together with partners from university institutes and industry, SET GmbH carries out research and
engineering projects. Power electronics are a major point of emphasis in these efforts.

MCE - Motor Control Electronic EMA

In the framework of a research project, SET GmbH developed control electronics for a customer in the
aircraft industry to serve as an electro-mechanical actuator for an aircraft's aileron. This new actuator
will be flight tested in 2009. Because of demanding ambient conditions with respect to requirements
for compactness, low mass and extreme reliability, this project presented a great challenge to our
developers. The qualification testing phase for the unit begins in the summer of 2008.

 Characteristics:
- three-phase inverter
- digital signal processing
- speed regulator with secondary current
   regulation
- 3.5 kW output rating

Experimental platform for innovative inverter technologies

In the framework of a technology program, SET GmbH was contracted to develop a test platform for
new inverter topologies. This unit makes it possible to investigate multi-level inverter concepts and
redundant controllers. The exceptionally variable layout of the platform, in combination with
appropriate processing power, programmable logic and power electronics, even permits the
operation of multiple electric motors from an intermediate circuit.
